Missouri, the Show Me State
Some strange creatures here in Missouri. We saw this creepy crawly, as well as an armadillo, and a ground hog.
Branson
Although it’s not clear how Missouri got its nickname of the “Show Me State,” it’s appropriate in Branson where you can see a show with quality entertainment morning, noon and night! All the shows are family friendly and include Gospel numbers, Patriotic music, and personal testimonies.
Sight and Sound Theater
For a Broadway caliber performance the Sight and Sound productions never disappoint. The musical stage performance of the story of Queen Esther was no exception! The stage wraps around the audience for an immersive experience. No photography or video is allowed in the Theater though, so no pictures to share!
Dogwood Canyon Nature Preserve
When visiting Missouri, you have to get out to enjoy the tree covered Ozark Mountains. This was a great season to get outdoors. Overnight thunderstorms cleared in the mid day in time for some time at Dogwood Canyon. We first discovered the canyon about thirty years ago when we originally visited Branson.
Johnny Morris, the founder of Bass Pro Shops has developed this beautiful canyon along a stream stocked with bass and rainbow trout. Walking trails and bike paths lead through the trees and over the cascading stream. Along the way you pass through a covered bridge and can stop for a time of reflection at the Hope Wilderness Chapel.
Mr. Morris has developed several other properties in or near Branson. Big Cedar Lodge has some great dining. Top Of the Rock has more restaurants , a golf course and stunning sunset views! Oh, and another chapel!
Silver Dollar City
The “City”, as it is referred to, has been voted “Best Theme Park” in America, and we are in agreement with the vote! Beautiful grounds, crafters, food, and live entertainment provided a couple of days of fun for us.
We don’t do the thrill rides but there is a fun railroad adventure that we enjoyed.
We haven’t yet seen too much in the way of fall colors, but we got some feels of the fall season with 16,492 pumpkins at the world’s largest pumpkin festival, that’s more pumpkins than we may see in our lifetime!
We are glad we did not miss the Garden of the Giants, where we saw HUGE pumpkins, the largest tipping the scales at a whopping 1,604 pounds!
Walking around the “city” to enjoy the musical performances throughout the grounds we were surrounded by “pumpkin everything”, with pumpkins of every shape, size and material!
Pumpkins crafted from cut steel vessels such as gas cans or tea kettles,
Ceramic pumpkins, hand carved natural and artificial pumpkins,
Giant spider pumpkins,
Hand blown glass pumpkins (and turkeys),
And Towers of pumpkins and gourds creating spooky creatures.
And for my friends and relatives who are cancer survivors or in a current battle with cancer here is a “pink ribbon” made from pumpkins. We pray for you continually.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;”
Philippians 4:6 NKJV
Whether musician, magician, crafter or pumpkin carver, Silver Dollar City doesn’t just allow a testimony or gospel song; they encourage the entertainers to include their Christian faith story. All throughout Branson this is done and it’s part of what we love about coming and spending time here. Whatever show you go to you get quality family friendly entertainment, with performers who glorify God, love our Country, and respect our Veterans and Active Duty personnel.
